Representative from an insurance company distributed personal information without permission?

Miss Sarah asked:

A representative from an insurance company obtained my credit report, distributed my credit report, and disclosed personal financial information to a third party all without my permission. They also sent my credit report to a potential client of mine. What sort of action can be taken?
The client has no interests in the company, the person was trying to cause defamation of my character in efforts to discredit me and steal the accounts for there self.

The faxed credit report was received through a unrelated company of this persons, which did not have a consent form.

gather all your evidence is the first step. then you file a complain with the insurance company, or you can engage legal services and sue this agent.

    Probably none.

See, if you applied for any kind of insurance with them, you signed permission for them to obtain your credit report. Whoever it is you think they disclosed to, most likely had legal interest, or had a different paper signed by you, to release it.

On the potential client – what KIND of client?

Your question is so vague, it’s going to be almost impossible to get an answer, so you’ll either have to post the relationship between all parties involved, or consult an attorney.

See, if you applied with the company, for instance, for a job, on the application they asked permission to check your information, including credit. If the third party was your legal guardian, they could have legal access. And if your potential client was also an employee of the company, they have prior permission based on the form you signed when you applied for the job.
