because they dont trust that you will actually pay the bill.
hence you are in collections in the first place. However if you told them you were going to pay with a Credit Card they cannot refuse your attempt to pay.
Use can use your debit card as a credit card for transaction purposes.

I guess because they are looking at it as a CREDIT card and not a debit card. They should take it because that money comes out of your account..quickly. But I guess they are assuming you don’t have the money and they want..money in hand.

They don’t trust that your debit or credit card transaction will go thru.
Ask for a written settlement agreement instead. Then send them money orders or cashiers checks. Keep photocopies of your payment with the settlement agreement for your records.

They are most likely not accepting a credit card payment because you could in fact, after the payment was applied to your account and you rec’d your paid in full copy from them, turn around and tell your credit card issuer that you did not authorize that transaction. The payment would be reversed but you would still have PIF receipt.

They must have had issues rior with someone’s credit card.. When you make a payment, even though it may go through, there is a time frame that you have to wait to get your money. It is not right away… This gives the card holder time to cal the credit card issuer and place a stop payment on the charge or you can say that you never authorized the deduction..

I used to work in the collection department of a bank. It is standard operating procedure in debt collection for debts to be paid in cash or with a cashier’s check.
Don’t take it personally, it had nothing to do with you.
