wow…You found a huge hole in the Privacy Act concerning Credit reports.

Firstly, how did your BF have access to your SS number, date and place of Birth, etc.

What really happened is that your BF is guilty of Identity thief. He pretended to be You and had all of the required data to convince the Credit Agency to give him private and personal information.

The Laws in my state specifically state that only the owner of an account can get private information on finances….Power of attorney is a different subject.

You never gave permission to the agency nor did you give your BF permission to try to get the information. A huge damaging hole in our privacy system.

I don’t know if I would be as mad at the credit agency as I would be at the “bf” that took your info and tried to take out a personal loan with it. I believe that is fraud & identity theft.

No one can access your credit report by calling, unless you call yourself. They are not allowed to give the information to anyone else. I can’t even call for my wife and she can’t call for me. If another female calls posing as you and knows your info, they might pull it off. As to what you can do, you must be able to prove it and then you can file a complaint with the F.T.C. and most likely since it happend through your boyfriend telling you he accessed it, you could file a complaint with your state attorney general. I would also drop the boyfriend, he evidently can’t be trusted to stay out of your personal finances.

There are three major credit reporting agencies which make credit information available to any who would do a credit check on you. This is perfectly legal, and does not require permission in acquiring the credit score and or information.

Any incorrect credit information can be challenged by you and must be corrected with a certain time frame, or by law, must be removed.

The thing that concerns me, did your bf have your permission in checking your credit rating. If not, he may have plans for you that you are not aware of and you should be very cautious about. Good idea to communicate to your parents and or relatives or friends, as he may be setting you up for something.
