ANDREW

Actually, the hospital CAN release the personal information of patient for the purpose of collecting a debt, even to a third party such as a collection agency. The confidentiality laws pertain to your TREATMENT, not your personal information for collection of a debt. If you want the hospital to find out if there is a patient with the same name, date of birth but different social security number then you need to get passed your stubborn attitude and provide them the tools they need to help you. I work in a medical billing office, and within the law we send patients' and there personal contact information (name, date of birth, social security number, address, etc) to collection agencies almost EVERY day for non-payment of medical bills. It is always possible that without the correct information being passed along that you can be mistaken for someone with similar information. If you truly wish to resolve the issue do as the hospital asks and you may be surprised to find that the results will turn in your favor, AFTER ALL THE HOSPITAL AND COLLECTION AGENCY WANT TO GO AFTER THE "RIGHT" DEBTOR, not a dead end.

DICK

Its always best to dispute something on the record that is incorrect first, then ask the credit bureau to validate how they validated the entry. If they can prove to you how it was validated then they have to remove the entry.

ART

You need the website below really badly! Read ALL of it, but especially the section called credit repair specialist. You will find a link for Credit Report Repair. I used them before and was very satisfied with their performance! This is a legal law firm and they know the in's and out's of credit report repair. They should be able to help you get through the patient confidentiality issue as an intermediary!
