Representative from an insurance company distributed personal information without permission?

Miss Sarah asked:

A representative from an insurance company obtained my credit report, distributed my credit report, and disclosed personal financial information to a third party all without my permission. They also sent my credit report to a potential client of mine. What sort of action can be taken?

Additional Details
The client has no interests in the company, the person was trying to cause defamation of my character in efforts to discredit me and steal the accounts for there self.

The faxed credit report was received through a unrelated company of this persons, which did not have a consent form.

My employer just announced that our personal info has been stolen?

jimmy asked:

We received a memo today from my employer that someone had sent personal info including ss #’s via email from work to an unrecognized email address. Coincidentally, our benefits person mysteriously was fired a little over a week ago. What rights do I have and what can I do to protect myself. I already have alerts set up for my credit report.

What should I do? Breach of personal information?

smoke20rules asked:

The home office of my employer’s broker dealer lost my fingerprint card that also contained my date and place of birth, social security number, home address, height, weight, etc. They have offered little explanation as to the situation. I was fingerprinted in 2004 so who knows how long it has been lost and whether it ever made it to their office. Should I be concerned they lost such personal information? Should I pursue any further actions like making them pay for a credit report or monitoring?

Im being sued for a car accident that happened 2 yrs. ago for personal injury, will this show on my credit?

sweetgirl asked:

Hello, I was in an accident over 2 years ago ( it was my fault).
Two months ago I found out I was getting sued for personal injury…I have a lawyer and believe this lawsuit is completely ridiculus because I talked to the guy for a good half hour after the accident and he was fine, not to mention his car only had a slight dent in the front corner…anyway, I know about the public records section of credit reports and I just wanted to know if a pending lawsuit will show up on it, or will it only show if I lose the suit and have a judgement against me? I recently checked my credit and so far it doesnt show up but Im worried it will be put on there. Any help would be great!!

Is it legal for someone to obtain my credit report for their use?

honhill asked:

I am in the process of divorcing and I recently found out that my husband hired a private investigator to obtain personal info about me. I accept the fact that much information is publicly available to anyone with the time, knowledge and/or money to find it, but is it really legal for someone other than myself to obtain my credit report? I don’t owe my husband any money and I have not hidden any assets, and he never even asked me for it, he simply had a PI gather my credit report along with other info: checking to see if I had ever been married, etc. I just feel that it is a big privacy violation and I am wondering if I can complain about it to any agency. I did not think that consumer credit reports were considered public information, but please correct me if I am wrong.
