Seek Your Personal Credit Report
You can always seek your personal credit report from all three credit agencies in the United States. The three agencies that provide a complete credit report are TransUnion, Experian and Equifax. It is data from these three agencies that determine your credit score and your ability to take loans etc. There are many online websites that will help you to request your personal credit report. This report will let you know where you stand and what your credit score is.
How The Credit Score Is Determined
A mathematical formula is used to measure data from your credit report to create your credit score. There are many things that are evaluated in your credit score. It includes the payment behavior, credit history and debt levels. Gender and race do not influence the credit score as they are not considered at all. If you have a good credit score, you will get the best rates when you apply for loans, credit cards etc. If you have a bad credit score on the other hand, you will find it more difficult than ever to get your application processed.
Factors Determining Your Credit Score
There are positive and negative factors which improve or degrade your credit score. These factors matter a lot when your credit score is determined.
You should not have a pattern of revolving debts. So, it is very important that you follow a healthy record while using credit cards, loans etc. If you have defaulted on many payments then you are bound to have a bad rating in this parameter.
Payment history is extremely important. You should make it a point to pay all your bills and dues on time. Credit cards and loan companies like to offer their services to creditworthy individuals and not to defaulters.
You should have a healthy credit limit on your open accounts but at the same time, it shouldn’t be something that you cannot pay off.
If you have had some experience in maintaining a healthy loan and credit history then you will score well in this parameter.
Sign up for an online bill payment service as you will default less and all your payments will happen on time.
You should have some open accounts for a long time. If you have been jumping accounts from time to time then it gives a bad picture about your credit history.
How The Personal Credit Report Can Help You
When you verify the personal credit report you can come to know if there have been any mistakes in them. Remember, even a slight mistake by one of the agencies can significantly degrade your credit score. All the addresses, employer details have to be verified as it can be a case of identity theft. You will also have all the details about all your credit card and loan accounts. So it will be easier for you to know whether the account is open or closed etc. The information also has to be the most recent and updated from time to time. Any accounts that you feel are not yours can be a fraudulent one. Frauds have to be taken very seriously as they can be a huge negative factor on your credit score.
You will also come to know who all have been looking at your credit report. So if you see any company whom you have not authorized to look at your credit report, then you must look at the matter as it can also be a case of fraud. So go ahead and get your own personal credit report now by applying for it online.

Why A Lender May Not Accept Your Recent Credit Report
Everyone knows that when you shop for a car, house, or anything else you plan on purchasing using credit, the terms and rates will be dependent on your credit rating. Therefore, many consumers will pull a personal credit report to use when shopping around to see what type of deal a merchant, creditor or lender may be able to give them.
Many consumers like to use a personal credit report when shopping for two reasons. One reason is that consumers know that inquiries into their credit history can lower their credit score. So it is very beneficial to keep credit inquiries to a minimum. Also the consumer may have to pay a credit report fee to the lender or creditor when they pull a credit report.
But consumers often wonder why a creditor will not accept a recent credit report especially when it was recently obtained. Consumers will find out that a creditor or lender may use the recent consumer report at first just to give an estimate of what terms and rates may be available but before an actual sale or transaction can occur the creditor or lender will need to pull another report. There are several reasons why another report will be needed.
A creditor or lender must always take action to protect itself and its investors by performing the proper due diligence on each deal and this includes pulling all consumers credit reports directly. With technology today it would be very easy for someone to fabricate a consumer credit report. This could even be as easy as electronically cutting and pasting a name on the credit report of another person. A creditor or lender must take precaution and pull a credit report directly to protect everyone. This adds an extra layer of protection for everyone. Identity theft is on the rise and the FBI has declared it a national epidemic.
Another reason is because the report that a lender or creditor may receive is very different from the consumer report. A basic consumer report is what an individual gets when they order their own credit history. This report can be obtained from a local credit bureau or from one of the big three: Experian, Equifax, or Transunion. The costs for these typically range from $8 to $15. Typical consumer reports contain basic personal information, some employment history, different credit accounts, some credit history and may include a credit score.
A merchant on the other hand will pull a full merchant report that will contain more information than a basic consumer report and will provide it with more detailed breakdowns. The merchant report will also show a complete FICO scoring system rating for the applicant which will include a full detailed credit history breakdown. In essence the lender or creditor has a full merchant scored report which is much more accurate than a regular consumer report. So a personal consumer report may be used to shop around to learn what may be available. But if you are serious about a purchase and want to see exactly what terms and rates you can get be prepared to have a full merchant report pulled. The good news is that you may be able to get a better deal than you thought was possible based on your consumer report.

personal credit question?
I am 25…my credit score is currently 730 (august 7th reading.) I just recently req my credit report and everything on there is fine (except for an account in collections for $26 from 2004 that i’m paying this friday.) i have always been told i have great credit, esp for my age…however about a month ago i was denied a old navy card, a small personal loan (as a co-signer for my bf) about 2 weeks ago, and today an increase on my american eagle card for only $375 more than i have now (to make it an even $500.) this is mind boggling to me. my credit is great, i pay all my bills on time (slightly more than what is owed) and there is nothing overly derogatory on my report.
any ideas of whats going on? and who would i contact about this? i know it has nothing to do with that $26 i owe mci bc that was in the first 2 years of my credit building and it never effected me to this point.
ugh
ps…i make over $2500 a mo and only owe on 1 credit card $506 to be paid on the 14th when i get paid.

Check Your Credit Report Regularly to Avoid Becoming a Victim of Identity Theft
This is the third in a series of articles which will increase your awareness about Identity Theft.
All of us know the importance of credit reports in our lives. Your credit report shows your personal information including your legal name, alias names, addresses, current and previous employers, social insurance number and date of birth.
It also shows details of most credit enquiries carried out by financial institutions, retailers and many other credit reporting agencies including:
Current and past credit status
Total number of open and closed accounts
If the balances of our accounts are current or delinquent
Public record information such as federal bankruptcy records local government court records, liens, judgments, and child support records (information that can stay in your record for up to 10 years)
Credit inquires that are used when you apply for a credit card, bank loan or retail financing.
Detailed account history - very up to date information about your loans, financing and credit card payments
Credit score.
Your credit score is a number ranging from between 330 and 830 in most states of the U.S. The higher the number assigned to you, the better your credit is. The higher your credit score, the better your chances are of obtaining additional credit cards and or loans.
Your credit report will also include information provided to Auto insurance companies, who usually obtain a credit report as part of their process when applications are made for auto insurance. Sometimes employers may also request credit reports as part of their hiring or promotions process.
In the United States, the Experian, Trans Union, and Equifax are the major credit bureaus that collect, maintain, and distribute this credit information. You are permitted, by law, to obtain one free copy of your credit report each year from each of these reporting agencies. However, when you apply for a copy of your report, you will usually see that fees apply to all requests for this information. Usually the free report is only available if you apply by mail and you must follow the requirements of the reporting company to obtain your free copy.
The information contained in your credit report, thus reflects your credit and consumer habits. Unless you obtain a copy of your credit report, you may never know your credit worthiness. Another more vital reason to obtain a copy of your credit report is to check to see if you have fallen victim to Identity Theft.
Verifying and checking your credit report is a vital means to make sure no one has obtained your identity. You may think that it may not happen to you, but there is nothing wrong by making absolutely sure. If you see any transactions on your credit report that do not make sense to you, immediately make enquiries to satisfy yourself whether the entries are legitimate or not. If they are not legitimate, it could be a mistake made by the credit reporting agency, and they will advise you very quickly if this is so and make the necessary correction. If the information is correct but not known to you, then you need to be on guard because you may have seen the beginnings of your identity being stolen.
You must take immediate action if you wish to avoid major loss and or damage to your personal reputation that presumably took you so many years to establish.
Here are some suggested ways to check your credit report.
Carefully examine your credit report upon receipt. Look into the section dealing with inquiries on your report. If you do not know what some of these relate to then make immediate enquiries. Remember, however, that any time you apply for credit, especially at the retail level, there will be a credit enquiry made upon your account, but you may not recognise the name of the company asking for the information as retailers seldom do their credit checks using their company name.
If you notice errors, such as a bill paid off but still show as outstanding on the report, then notify the agency and request for it to be removed. You must follow up personally on these corrections and make sure that your specific request has been acted upon.
Watch out for accounts opened in your name that you do not know about. Sometimes, maybe a family member has opened an account without letting you know. If this is not so, then maybe a stranger has opened the accounts and that puts your credit and finances in danger. Be alert always and take the issue of Identity Theft as a serious threat to your good name. Make sure that your personal and financial information never get into the wrong hands.

how can I change my personal information on credit bureaus?
I can’t obtain credit, and I can’t get a credit report.
The personal information I give to them don’t match the information of my home address that they have on file. I have been told to call all three credit bureaus (Equifax, Experian, and Trans Union) and to have my personal information changed.
The thing is the numbers I have don’t work. I always get a machine that never connects to a human being and every time I call I end up having to do things online. I’ve read their FAQ online on all three companies and they have said that I have to contact my creditors since they are the one that update my personal information on file, but the thing is I have no creditors.
help, I need to know what to do.

Fantasy Credit Report
r Credit Report (the Boring Part)
Your online credit report is a collection of files and records pertaining to your credit history. It is often referenced for hiring, renting, mortgages, loans, background checks and many other situations which may require an involvement of a larger sum of your income or a need for your personal services. Your online credit report contains the good the bad and yes, the ugly, within its pages. There are 3 major credit report bureaus from which the information comes from: TransUnion, Equifax and Experian. For the most they are similar, but between the three bureaus there may be some different items listed.
What If!?
What if your online credit report was only full of positive, correct and up to date items? This would be like a fantasy credit report. You could use it like a tool for certain things like getting a low interest loan or the mortgage you actually wanted. You could use it as a weapon against those creditors who automatically assume that your credit sucks and turn the whole finance game around on them. This fantasy credit report would be like a report card with all A’s (something most of us have never experienced right?). Imagine not having to worry about what the results are going to be when the phone rings from the bank because you have total peace of mind that your credit report is not only clean but also free of errors and mishaps. The anxiety of waiting for the results of your credit standing concerning a major purchase can cause equal or more mental tension than a doctor walking in the room with his results for a major medical test.
Making the Fantasy a Reality
Okay, so this whole fantasy credit report thing is exactly just that right? A fantasy. Well… not necessarily. See, you are the only one that can ultimately control what happens to your credit report. Yes, of course there are those ‘unknown factors’ - BUT, the good news is there is a big first step you can take to help start achieving your own personal fantasy credit report. You can obtain a free copy of your credit report and see what negative items are sitting on your file. More than 70% of all U.S. citizens with credit reports have false or out of date items on their credit file. By spotting these items early and taking the appropriate steps to remove them you can improve your credit rating. What else can you do? Develop a personalized budget. It will take a couple months of re-adjusting but will help you to see where your money is going and begin to mature your spending habits. Also, think about your major purchases before you make them. Too often in our society, consumers buy things without a second thought and “paint themselves into a corner” financially. When you take on more payments than you can afford you have set up your credit report for long term damage. Here is a saying to think about regarding this type of situation: “If your outgo exceeds your income, eventually your upkeep will become your downfall.” Remember that the fantasy credit report is waiting to evolve before your very eyes - you just have to make it happen.
